What have you been up to for the last 40 years?
After graduation form high school, I attended CSU for one quarter. I then married Ben Freedberg and became a homemaker. We were married 31 years when he had a heart attack and died in March of 1994. We have three children, Ann Rebecca (Becky), Samuel Charles (Sam), and Ovadyah Layv (Avi). Becky resides in Israel with her husband and five children (Penina, Dovid, Mattis, Benjamin, and Leyah). Presently, Becky is attending Turo College studying Psychology. She will graduate in another year and hopefully return to the USA for her post grad. She will be applying to med school seeking a degree in Psychiatry. Sam is a graduate of New Mexico State University and lives in Denver with his wife Tara Jo. Sam works for McDonald Hardwoods and D&L Security Co. Avi is living in New York City where he is attending Fordham University studying Communication. He is working at K-rock radio station on weekends and baby-sits during the week.
After my husband passed away, I moved from Denver to Passaic Park, New Jersey. My daughter was living in Passaic and invited Avi and myself to move in. Soon after arriving in New Jersey, I moved into my own apartment and began working for a contractor as an office manager. Three years later, I began working as an Administrative Assistant for the Passaic County Women’s Center (a domestic violence and sexual assault program). I worked four years for PCWC and Jewish Family Service. When my youngest son began college, I began thinking about moving to Florida to take care of my parents. My father is 93 and my mother is 89. My father is suffering from dementia due to a stroke. He has little memory and is failing. My mother takes care of my father and I take care of household. At present, I am employed at Haven of Lake & Sumter Counties as a Domestic Violence Individual Counselor and Group Facilitator. I counsel clients at our two shelters as well as two outreach locations.
What do you want to do with the rest of your life (the next 50 years!)
I would like to finish my education achieving a MSW degree and continue working for survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
