Our five sons and our first grand daughter attended the ceremony on our hillside in southern Fremont County, Colorado. My youngest son, Tom’s offering at our wedding sums it up, “ Mom is like Goldilocks- the first one was too hot, the second one was too cold but the third one is just right”. My eldest son, Chris Danos is 36 years old. He is a detective for the city of Gunnison, CO. His wife Lisa is the head of the English Department at Gunnison High School. Our grand daughters are Emera, who is 10 yrs. old and Marisa who is 7. The whole family skis and each one plays ice hockey on a team. Rod’s eldest son, Rodney Allen Barringer is 35 and is assistant fire chief for Buckley Air National Guard as well as a fire fighter for the city of Englewood. He and his wife Kara live in Aurora with their Bull Mastiff, Gunderson. Next is my son Bill Danos who is 34 years old, a police officer for Denver, and a guitarist. Rod’s youngest son Rhett is also 34 years old and was Bill’s wrestling opponent in high school. They inadvertently introduced us 16 years ago. Rhett and his wife Christie live in Talahassee, Florida with their 5 month old son Tyler. Rhett remodels houses and Christie works for Florida State University on their alumni outreach. Tom who is 32 lives on Green Mountain in Lakewood, CO with his wife Mary, her sons Chris 14 and John 12 and their son Domonic who is 2. Tom is an electronic technician for BEST BUY and Mary is a computer graphic artist for Raven Printing. We love to have our sons and their families camp out with us on our hillside. We play horseshoes, hike, do archery, etc. We are looking forward to a family outing at Blue Mesa with Chris’s boat. I attended CSU for my freshman year right after high school and enrolled as a sophomore 10 years later at Loretto Heights. Social Work was my major at CSU. I helped open the first children’s cottage at Ft. Logan Mental Health Center and was inspired to finish my degree in elementary and special education. I taught for Jefferson County for 23 years while I raised my sons. I took an early retirement in 2000 and we moved to our land in southern Colorado. After volunteering in the local towns of Westcliffe, and Silver Cliff, I was offered the Tobacco Education and Prevention Coordinator position at the Custer County Nursing Service. We have been funded for our 3rd year. Westcliffe has offered creative outlet for many of my interests. I have studied dance, yoga and Tai Chi Chi throughout my life. There is a dance troupe in our area that includes me in their yearly performance. We have a writer’s group that my husband and I attend monthly. I am also part of the Westcliffe players performing at the Jones Theater that houses the Westcliffe Center for the Performing Arts. I’ve been in 5 performances so far: 3 season openers and 2 Colorado Voices plays. I was a quirky neighbor in “A Bad Year for Tomatoes”, a farm wife in “Gladys”, a jealous wife in “Sylvia”, a femme fatale in “Taking Care of Business” and this summer I played the gossipy cousin in “Crimes of the Heart”. Rod and I have traveled through Canada and the northwest. Our favorite is the beach at Grayland, Washington. We hot springs hop when we are on the road. My favorite high school memory is dancing in Bye Bye Birdie to “Put on a Happy Face” I moved to Lakewood from East Denver when I was a senior. It was a culture shock moving from a big city high school to a suburban high school. I have had a similar experience moving from Lakewood to our hillside near the small town of Westcliffe. Going from being fairly anonymous to having people know you has been an adjustment for this city girl. For the next phase of my life, I hope to continue finding outlets for my creativity and more ways to play in the company of family and friends.
