1963 Yearbook Photo

First Name:  Stan

Last Name:  James

Current Address:   700 Ridgeside Dr., Golden, CO  80401

Stan started his post-Alameda life at the University of Colorado in Boulder, where an intention to major in Architecture ended up becoming a degree in Accounting.  A summer job in Yellowstone National Park was the setting for meeting his lifetime love, Jean.  Graduation, marriage in New Hampshire, and the Army followed in short order.  Experiencing Viet Nam was enough to end any thoughts of a military career, and we were soon back in Lakewood where Stan counted things for Public Service Co.  The Architecture training came in handy as we designed and constructed, in Evergreen, the first of our three houses.  Too bad Stan didn’t pay more attention in shop class!

After a really great two-year Graduate School program at the University of Hawaii (would you believe Golf was part of the curriculum?), we moved to Manitou Springs where our second construction project and a senior accountant job with the Colorado Springs Utilities awaited.  When a little spare time finally occurred, we began giving weekend presentations for Christian Marriage Encounter, sharing the funny and serious events of our marriage in order to encourage other couples to bring Christ into their relationships!  With the house finished, the puppies all grown and mid-life at hand, Stan took an early retirement, and we set out in a VW camper to see the country.  Six months,  26,000 miles, and 40 states later, it was off for another year in Hawaii.

Well, mid-life retirement was fantastic, but it didn’t pay very well.  So we returned to Glenwood Springs, where Stan worked as Asst. Controller for the Hot Springs Pool & Lodge.  Then when Jean took a job as Colorado Sales Manager for a Hawaii Tour Company, it was back to Golden…where we anxiously await the day when we can really retire and spend the rest of our lives exploring the country in one of those giant RVs!

We love to travel, and have been fortunate enough to make several trips each year to places around the world.  Cruise ships are a favorite vacation, and have enabled us to experience quick visits to many of the world’s exotic spots.  Four-Wheeling is another favorite, seeing much of Colorado, Wyoming & Utah’s off-the-beaten-track beauty.
