"Where shall I begin and how shall I presume to spit out the butt ends of my days and ways?" I will, if I must. I lost the election for President of the Student Body, after the microphone was unplugged. It got rocky after that. I spent most of my senior year on independent study. This was the result of two explosions: one in science lab and one with Mr. Coon, the "democracy" teacher. For both offenses, I was sent away on independent study. I believe Mr. Graybel was punished, but Coon got off. I was blessed with the best teacher in the world, Alex Campbell. He believed in me. Unfortunately, he died. Thereafter, a helpful principal nixed Stanford, so I spent one year at the University of New Mexico. Then God called me to work in a New Jersey factory. Farther north, part time courses at Columbia University and work at an orphanage in New York filled my days. Washington, D.C. and American University were the next ports of call. While there, I finished my undergraduate and Master’s Degree there along with most of my work for a Ph.D. in international law. I worked at the Library of Congress in the Russian section. Left to live in Yugoslavia for six months and then returned to Colorado. Got married to a Kiwi and stayed in New Zealand for a while. Started the Center for Dispute Resolution in Denver and became a mediator (my longest and current profession). Next, I worked for the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. Moved to Dallas, Texas to start the Dispute Mediation Service of Dallas. Got divorced. Worked for the U.S. Justice Department. Taught at the regional police academy where I met and married Heather, my current wife. Got happy. Got a daughter, Casey (20) and a son, Richard (10). She is in college. He is inside the video games. Heather is my constant guide and companion. Wrote a book. Started my own mediation company. Became president of the Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution. Mom and then Dad died. Took over Dad’s real estate business, which still takes much of my time. Have basked in the light of pride at the achievements of my daughter, a presidential scholar at A&M and my son, who at 10 reads on a 9th grade level. I love to travel with my wife and family. We have been to Wales (her ancestral home), Italy, Portugal, Spain and the Virgin Islands on lots of vacations. Life is good.

What do you want to do with the rest of your life (the next 50 years!)

If I lived another fifty years, I would be older than Bob Hope was when he died. That just would not be right! I will settle for 35 more years. My goals are simple. I will finally get organized and stop being a.d.d.d.d.d.d.d.d.d. I will begin to write again. I will be writing another book on mediation and one on being a landlord. I will really learn Spanish and Italian and Russian. I will spend every moment allowed around my grandchildren, if I am fortunate enough to have any. I will travel and live six months a year in Italy. I will love my wife and children with all of my heart. I will aspire to a glimmer of enlightenment. I will pray for the collapse of governments that lie and systems that cheat their constituents and stockholders. I will read inspiring books. I will enjoy every sunset and see many sunrises. I will die at home in bed, surrounded by my family without ever having been in a nursing home. I hope to be in heaven one hour before the devil knows I am gone.
